The Passion to Create for the Artist in All of Us – October 2025 Blog Post #2 of 4

We have always believed in the power of creativity, not only for the creator, but, just as importantly, have also witnessed first-hand the positive reactions in anyone viewing the results of someone’s creative efforts. Like us, you will no doubt have heard many and varied reactions – most common amongst them being “I cannot draw a straight line”, or “I haven’t got a creative bone in my body”. If either of those reactions was true, then none of us would be creating our artworks, wouldn’t you agree? But these reactions are not so much defensive in nature, as they are expressions of admiration – admiration for the fact that you are doing what they would love to do.
Which is where our passion for helping others to enjoy the benefits of creating art, comes into play – be it on the first steps of their journey, or further down the line, when someone is seeking to explore other techniques or mediums; or indeed, if someone is looking to extend their repertoire further by maximising the creativity they have developed, whether painting for pleasure or professionally.
When I first started to share my passion with others, many years before I wrote my first books, a fellow artist offered some advice - never share all your techniques and secrets – suggesting that, somehow, we ‘professional artists’ were separate.
Which was precisely the culture within art colleges when I studied for my degree –
in turn, this led to confusion, for there was no-one instructing us on techniques.
THIS IS NOT WHO I AM – AND I VOWED THEN TO ALWAYS SHARE MY KNOWLEDGE and ACCUMULATED EXPERIENCE gained by EXPLORING TECHNIQUES throughout my professional life as a Fine Artist – because nothing gives me greater pleasure than to witness the sheer joy expressed by someone starting-out on their artistic journey and, developing further, their creative experience.
THIS IS THE CREED THAT Eileen and I ABIDE BY, WHEN WORKING ON ANY OF OUR TUTORIALS within my thirteen books and many, many hundreds of online video tutorials.
Our first scribblings with any art materials, whether it is that standard pencil, or a tin of the cheapest watercolours, can lead to a lifetime of creativity, at whatever age we start. It doesn’t matter whether or not the artist in us continues to develop for the pleasure of it, or for our professional lives – it becomes obsessive and I should know, for it is through my earliest of sketches, as a very young child, that my passion for creating artworks began.
My ‘know-how’ gained over many decades of trying out and developing new techniques forms the basis of our detailed, fully narrated video tutorials. Tutorials that cover the basics, right through to the same techniques that I use for my own Fine Artworks. Tutorials that cater for the complete beginner, those who are comfortable with their achievements thus far, to anyone wishing to explore new techniques and develop further – we are there, guiding you along the way on your artistic journey.
Thank you for reading our latest news and for your continued interest in our work; for It is your support that motivates us to keep creating and producing art tutorials and working on our various projects and for that we are indebted to you.
As ever, this comes with best wishes, from Eileen and myself. Stay safe and keep well, in spirit and in health.
