The Art of Sketching & Drawing - For The Artist in Everyone
Greetings from our studio – where Autumn seems to have started earlier, with chilly temperatures requiring warming drinks and the firing-up of the log-burner as we film and produce our latest batch of art tutorials.
Right on cue, a few days ago, Eileen and I witnessed the ‘gathering’ of a large flock of swallows within the perimeter of our studio and homestead – preparing to take-off for their flight southwards to their winter quarters. Usually these beautiful birds fly in spirals, hovering above the ground in our garden – not so this year, preferring the field next to us. However, they did something more unusual as well, lining up on the apex of our studio roof – we counted over fifty of these glorious birds, chattering away to each other. “Are they passing on their orienteering knowledge?” we wondered.
Now we prepare for our winter – grabbing time-out from the studio to tidy up the garden, after having a frustrating, overly wet summer, in which we couldn’t do as much as we wanted. Soups will also be batch-prepared to keep us warm whilst working away on new paintings for my Fine Art collections, new Elphen projects and the all-important art tutorials.
Talking of new art tutorials – let us introduce our latest, the first in a completely new series – inspired by one of my former art tutorial books ‘The Essential Painting Guide’.
We had originally planned to create a series of books under ‘The Essential’ title – after the ‘Pencil to Palette to Paint’ series of six books and the ‘From Scratch’ series of four books. However, when the opportunity came to produce video tutorials, we decided to switch to that way of sharing our art tutorials – after all, we can share much more information in videos than can be done in books.
The art of sketching and drawing can range from the simplest of quickly rendered sketches, through to the most detailed of tonal drawings – the choice is yours alone to make.
Sketches and drawings can be rendered using a wide range of possible equipment – from the simplest pencil to an exciting range of water-based tools.
Sketching and drawing sits alongside painting – as an equivalent art-form in its own right or as a companion to painting.
We thank you for reading our latest news and for your continued interest in our work and, as ever, send best wishes, from Eileen and myself,”
