News from Paul Taggart’s Elphen Chronicles – December 2025 Blog Post #1 of 4

This comes with warmest wishes from our studio in the Highlands of Scotland, at a magical time of the year; when the palette of vibrant Autumnal colours is at its most vivid. The past week or so has seen the temperatures here sink to below minus, from an unusually warm start to November, then swinging back up again with frosty mornings and clearer skies. Rainbows have made daily appearances across both land and sea, sometimes doubling-up. As for the low-lying light, as ever it serves to strengthen the contrasts within every element.

The over-wintering geese have returned in great skeins that rise up from their grazing in the fields that surround us – the rush of wings is unlike any other noise. Flocks of swans fly low over our garden as they return to their roosting site on the loch not far from our homestead – so low we can feel the downward beat of their wings. And … a new winter visitor has taken to popping into our garden pond, ever so skittish that we cannot get anywhere near it, rising gracefully to swoop away, only to return once we are safely ensconced in our Steading studio – a blue-grey heron, probably on the hunt for frogs.


Like most of our neighbours, we will soon be breaking out our Christmas decorations to deck the studio and our homestead – adding to the warmth of our working surroundings where we have been beavering away on even more books, films and other elements that make up the Treasure Chest of Paul Taggart’s Elphen Chronicles – so do watch this space, as they say, for forthcoming news and releases – all will be revealed in the coming months.
