Zand’s grandmother encouraged him to open the lid to reveal the interior, crammed with tubes of paint and myriad brushes. Bottles containing differing coloured liquids were a fascination, each labelled in his grandfather’s script. The lid itself held a well-used palette, perfectly polished with years of paint. But, most importantly, the box was heaped full of possibilities.
